Episode 19 | Part One: Gen Z VC

Episode Information

Greg has met with hundreds if not thousands of investors, but this week on the podcast he’s joined by Marshall Sandman, the managing partner of the world’s first VC fund backed by influencer founders. Marshall is on the mission to help social media stars monetize their value and he’s also using the power of social media to find deals and investors. In part one, Marshall talks about his early days at Goldman Sachs, what inspired him to create Animal Capital, how he mixes social media with venture capital.

About Marshall Sandman:
Marshall is the managing partner of Animal Capital, the first Gen. Z-focused venture capital fund with digital creator megastars at the founder level, and head of venture at the Sway House, a collective of social media superstars, including Josh Richards, Griffin Johnson, Bryce Hall, Noah Beck, and Blake Gray.

Throughout his career, Sandman has merged his financial expertise with a creative mindset. Before launching Animal Capital, Sandman was a strategy, venture capital, and business development executive at WarnerMedia. He began his career at Goldman Sachs initially as an analyst structuring equity derivatives for hedge funds before successfully transitioning to becoming an investment banker in the Natural Resources vertical.

At the onset of COVID-19, Sandman left his job at WarnerMedia to focus on philanthropy full time. In several months, he raised tens of thousands of dollars for Harlem Grown, a nonprofit that operates local urban farms and provides increased access to and knowledge of healthy food for Harem residents.

A graduate of Cornell University, Sandman has orchestrated dozens of investments on behalf of members of the Sway House in companies such as Breakr, a platform that connects artists and influencers; Step, a banking app that helps teens build a credit history and learn about financial literacy; and Super Coffee, a sugar-free, enhanced coffee line that has attracted celebrity investors such as Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez.
