Clint concludes his conversation with James Williams, Coca-Cola’s Vice President of Olympic Marketing and Assets. In part two, James discusses how Coke is preparing itself for two major events in less than 6 months and how Japan is handling the pandemic in the lead up to the Olympics.
About James Williams:
After an award-winning career agency side working for various clients and industries, including alcohol, telecoms, technology and FMCG, James was recruited to work for Coca-Cola on the marketing team. After various marketing roles in the Northwest Europe BU James was moved onto the London 2012 Olympic project team to lead the execution of the Olympic Torch Relay for the company. After delivering Coca-Cola’s most successful torch relay in 2012, he was posted to Coke Brazil to lead the marketing and sponsorship for the Rio 2016 Games. In Rio he created one of the most talked about and integrated activations ever for the games. He has continued his career with Coca-Cola and the Olympics with his move to Tokyo, Japan in 2017 as VP of Olympic assets and Marketing for the Tokyo 2020 Games. Before the postponement of the Games, James created Coca-Cola’s first ever portfolio strategy & execution for a sporting asset which has been adopted across many global markets. Not only has he driven innovative thinking, but the Tokyo games were set to drive one of the most effective business returns for Coca-Cola Japan. He is now leading the team in what will be a different but as impactful Games in 2021.
